Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument
Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico
Our favorite thing we did in New Mexico. Cone-shaped hoodoos weathered out of volcanic ash, about an hour southwest of Santa Fe on Cochiti Pueblo land. The slot canyon threads between them and climbs to a mesa top looking out over the whole formation, which genuinely reads as a moonscape. Go early to beat the crowds and the heat, and check access before you drive out, since the monument closes at the Pueblo's discretion.
